NYSCTE Physics Exam is an assessment which checks candidates knowledge and skills in physics subject. Candidate passing this exam gets the certification to teach in New York State as a physics teacher. Candidate needs to prove his proficiency in general subjects along with fundamental topics of subject area. New York State Teachers Certification Exam is available in several schedules. Candidate can choose any of the timings according to the schedule available.
Eligibility for NYSTCE Physics Exam
New York State Education board provides certification to physics educator in two phases initial and professional. Initial certification is entry level credential which is valid for the period of three years. Candidate should be a bachelor degree holder from state or national university. Candidate should also have passing scores in liberal arts and science test and assessment of teaching skills exam to get initial level certification. For getting professional certification, candidate should have master degree from state or national university and three years of teaching experience.
Format of NYSTCE Physics Exam
NYSTCE Physics Exam includes 90 multiple choice questions and one subjective question. This exam is evaluated on the scale of 300, out of which 220 are the minimum marks required to get the certification. If the candidate falls short of the marks in the exam then he is liable to appear for the assessment after the interval of 30 days. Candidate should manage time well so as to complete entire paper in 240 minutes.

- Fundamental of science historical and contemporary importance of physics, role of observation and experimentation, organizing scientific data, principles and procedures of measurement.
- Mechanics and thermodynamics motion in one dimension and two dimension, force, laws of motion, work, energy and power, circular motion, simple harmonic motion, laws of thermodynamics.
- Electricity and magnetism electric field, electric charge, electric potential, DC circuits, AC circuits, electromagnetism.
- Waves, sound and light - properties of waves, sound waves, electromagnetic waves, reflective and refractive devices.
- Quantum theory and atom dual nature of light, wave, atomic structure, radioactivity, nuclear physics.
