New York State Teachers Certification Exam is conducted to assess the candidates knowledge skills necessary to teach in NY public schools. Candidate needs to prove his/her rationale and purposive talent in mathematics subject to practice as a mathematics educator in the state. Candidate should be able to provide reasons logically and understands the correlations between mathematics and other subjects.
Eligibility for NYSTCE Mathematic Exam
New York State Educator Board gives the certification in two stages initial and professional. Initial certification is a short term certification and valid for the period of three years. After this period candidate needs to upgrades his beginners level certification to masters level certification. Candidate should comply with the certification requirements to get eligible for the certification. Candidate should be a bachelor degree holder from state or national university. Candidate should also have permanent citizenship of the United States and should have fingerprints clearance certificate.
Format of NYSTCE Mathematic Exam
NYSTCE Mathematics Exam includes 90 multiple choice questions and one subjective question which are evaluated on the scale of 100- 300. Minimum marks required to clear the exam are 220. If the candidate falls short of marks in the assessment then he is liable to appear again in the exam after the interval of 30 days. Total duration for completing the exam is 240 minutes. Candidate should try to attempt all the questions listed in the exam as there is no negative marking for incorrect answers.

Syllabus of NYSTCE Mathematic Exam include following headings :-
- Mathematical reasoning inductive, deductive and symbolic logic, mathematical concepts and symbols, mathematical modeling. (13%)
- Algebra complex numbers and subsets, algebraic operations and relations, linear functions and relations, polynomial functions and relations rational, radical, absolute functions and relations, exponential and logarithmic functions. (26%)
- Calculus and Trigonometry trigonometric functions and geometric representation, trigonometric model and its problem solving methods, concept of calculus. (17%)
- Measurement and geometry principles of measurement, axiomatic geometry, co ordinate geometry, transformational geometry and vector. (17%)
- Probability and statistics sequence, series, summation, probability and their applications, data analysis and statistics, discrete mathematics. (17%)
- Algebra a constructed response query is formed from this topic. This query should be crafted in artistic, concise and clear manner. (10%)
