The test is administered by computer, with a set of 100 multiple-choice questions. Of course, like all TExES tests, it is timed with a five-hour period and an extra 15 minutes for signing an agreement and a short introduction to the test. The test can be taken in testing sites around the state of Texas and nationwide, under the TExES code 171. All TExES tests are administered all year, from Monday to Saturday, excluding Sundays and holidays.

In order to take the test, one needs to register online, with their first and last name and TEA ID or teaching ID number. The TExES tests function on a first-serve basis, so getting an appointment for taking the test is mandatory. Testing sites are available in the state of Texas, but also nationwide. In addition to this, an exam fee should be taken into consideration, which is $116.

All TExES exams, including the Technology education certification, offer their teachers preliminary results. These should be available after taking the test, at the testing site. All official scores are available online at 10.00 PM CST on certain score dates. A score of over 240 points and above is considered a passing score since all TExES exams have a score range of 100 - 300.
