Candidates must fulfill the following conditions to be eligible for appearing in the AAFCS exam-

  • Candidates are eligible to appear for the exam if they have pursued state teacher certifications in Family and Consumer Sciences.
  • Candidates must have pursued the program from a recognized college/university that has an approved program.

Syllabus for TExES AAFCS Family & Consumer Sciences Exam (200)

The AAFCS examination is conducted to test the core knowledge area and skills of the Texas educator candidates. The examinations specifications cover the following core areas and are composed of 8 domains-

  • Integration of Foundations
  • Human Development, Education and Services
  • Nutrition, Wellness, and Food Science
  • Food, Lodging, and Hospitality
  • Consumer and Resource Management
  • Textile and Apparel
  • Environment Design

Questions in the exam are designed to assess the cognitive ability and overall knowledge of the candidates. The examination covers two core aspects- knowledge of the subject and ability to take the examination.

Format for AAFCS Family & Consumer Sciences Exam (200)

Format of the AAFCS exam majorly coves following important aspects-

  • It is a computer-based test and covers 100 questions.
  • The examination is based on MCQs or selected-response questions.
  • The score is based upon the number of answers responded correctly.
  • There is no penalty for a negative response or answer.
  • The allotted time is 3 hours and 15 minutes (CBT tutorial).

How to Apply for the AAFCS Family & Consumer Sciences Exam (200)?


American Association of Family and Consumer Sciences Examination is available nationally. However, Texas candidates taking the exam will have to use the website to register and schedule their appointment dates and receive scores. Candidates can choose the dates based on the appointment and they are available round the year on a first-come, first-served basis. Examination sites are based in Texas and Nationwide.

Exam Fee- $116 is applicable as the examination fee. Additional fees may apply.

Scores for AAFCS Family & Consumer Sciences Exam (200)


A passing score of 240 is required for candidates to qualify for the exam. During the registration process, candidates can choose to send the passing result to AAFCS when applying for National Professional Credential. As AAFCS professional credentialing is a separate process from Texas Educator Certification.
