GACE Music Exam Study Guide
Music is an art form whose medium is sound and silence. An educator teaching music should be such that he can create interest in the students regarding theoretical and practical concepts of music. The educator who gets successful in this task is said to be capable and efficient educator. This capability is tested by Georgia Professional Standards Commission. GPSC board conducts GACE Music Exam to check the competency of the educator. Candidate clearing this exam gets the certification to teach in Georgia State as a Music Educator.
GPSC Board makes things very easy and convenient for the aspiring candidates. Candidate can file their application through internet, mail or telephone. Moreover candidate has full freedom to choose his medium of testing. Candidate has two options, either pen pencil format or computer based. If the candidate falls short of the marks in the exam then candidate is liable to appear again for the exam after the period of 30 days.
Candidate should not forget to sign his answer document and application form. Without the candidates signature, the score will be declared as null and void.
Eligibility for GACE Music Exam
To appear for GACE Music Exam, candidate should meet and satisfy the eligibility conditions issued by the board. For getting renewable certification, candidate should have bachelor degree and certification from the state approved college. For non renewable certification, candidate should be enrolled in any certification program run by state approved college in addition to bachelor degree.
Syllabus of GACE Music Exam
Syllabus of GACE Music Exam include following topics :-
- Melody and harmony
- Qualities of musical performance
- Errors in musical performance
- Rhythm and tempo
- Western music
- Vocal production
- Music and other arts etc.
The above mentioned topics are very important from examination point of view. Candidate should study them nicely to get good marks in the exam.
Format of GACE Music Exam
GACE Music Exam involves two sub tests. Each sub test is inclusive of objective and subjective questions. 80% weightage is given to objective questions and 20% weightage is given to subjective questions.
Sub test I
- Aural and acoustic skills- 25 objective questions and 1 subjective question
- Theory of music- 20 objective questions and 1 subjective question
- Creating music- 15 objective questions
Sub test II
- History and culture of music- 16 objective questions and 1 subjective question
- Musical performance- 28 objective questions and 1 subjective question
- Relationship between music and other ideals- 16 objective questions
Each sub test includes 60 objective questions and 2 subjective questions. Scoring of GACE Music Exam is done on the scale of 300, out of which 220 are the minimum marks to get the certification.
