Students who are disabled and uses speech language for communication and interaction requires skilled speech language educator. These educators interact and communicate with the disabled students and polish their skills for effective communication and building relationships. Florida Department of Education conducts FTCE Speech Language Impaired Exam to grant certification to the eligible educators. Florida Teacher Certification Exam tests the candidates competencies and skills to handle students with special needs. Candidate can opt for either professional or temporary certification. Both these certification have different requirements and eligibility criteria. Professional certification is valid for the period of five academic years and is subjected to renewal after this period. Temporary certification is valid for three academic years however it is non renewable.
Eligibility for FTCE Speech Language Impaired exam
To appear in FTCE Speech Language Impaired Exam, candidate needs to meet all the eligibility requirements listed by the board.
For professional certification- candidate needs to hold bachelor degree with the master degree in the requested subject.
For temporary certification- candidate needs to hold bachelor degree with 2.5 GPA in the requested subject
Candidate also needs to submit finger prints report to the education board. Florida Department of Education will verify the reports before granting certification to the candidate.
