OSAT Psychology Sociology Exam


For getting a certificate in teaching for the state of Oklahoma, a new teacher needs to pass any of the three tests:

  • Oklahoma General Education Test or OGET for assessment of the state education knowledge and skills
  • Oklahoma Professional Teaching Examination or OPTE that are in line with the Oklahoma General Competencies for Teacher Licensure and Certification, for assessing the professional knowledge of the teacher
  • Oklahoma Subject Area Tests or OSAT in line with Oklahoma Full Subject-Matter Competencies and national standards for the knowledge any teacher needs in the classroom in line with certain subjects.

One of the OSAT exams is the OSAT Psychology / Sociology Exam, under the OSAT code 132.

Eligibility for OSAT Psychology Sociology Exam


All entry-level teachers can apply to take this test, after taking the OGET exam. The test is handed out all year excluding Sundays and holidays, until September 2021. After that, it can be taken during certain yearly testing windows that last for up to one month. The tests are administered after getting an appointment, on a first come - first serve basis. All tests can be taken at testing sites around Oklahoma and the USA, these are called CBT sites.

Syllabus for OSAT Psychology Sociology Exam


All OSAT tests have several subareas, the Psychology Sociology Exam has six subareas. They include:

  1. Core Perspectives, Methods, and Concepts of Psychology
  2. Development, Learning, and Cognition
  3. Motivation, Emotion, Personality, Mental Health, and Social Behavior
  4. Core Methods and Concepts of Sociology
  5. Social Institutions, Stratification, and Problems
  6. Pedagogical Content Knowledge

Format of OSAT Psychology Sociology Exam


The test is timed and can be taken for a maximum of 4 hours and 15 minutes, of which:

  • 15 minutes are for a short intro to computer-based testing and for signing an agreement
  • 4 hours are for filling out the multiple-choice questions that include 80 selected-response questions and 1 constructed-response assignment

How to Apply for OSAT Psychology Sociology Exam


After taking the entry test or OGET, the candidate is required to apply online for taking the OSAT Psychology Sociology Exam. They can do so by applying online and paying a fee in advance, which costs all together $135. $80 is for taking the test, $25 for CBT, and $30 as a registration fee. After that, the new teachers can pick out the date and location as per their convenience, in line with online-available dates and locations.

Scores for OSAT Psychology Sociology Exam


Official scores of the test are available online, up to one month after taking the test. OSAT tests have a certain way of scoring their candidates, where 85% of the score make up the constructed response questions and 15% of the score the essay type question. A passing score is considered to be everything above 240 points.
