Selection Instrument for Flight Training Exam (SIFT)
The first testing session of the SIFT or Selection Instrument for Flight Training was during 2006. Since then, it has been used by the United States Army. The most use for it was found in certificating personnel in the field of Army Aviation. This is a relatively new test but with high standards of success in the Army setting. It is a public exam, any member of the military can try to grasp, as long as they see themselves in the aviation field. The core competence of this test is that it does not just examine the educational knowledge of the test taker, but also a person’s cognitive abilities. Eligibility for Selection Instrument for Flight Training Exam
Any army personnel can apply to take this exam. Even if an individual has a wish to join the Army in the future, he or she is eligible to take the SIFT. In the future, certificated SIFT candidates can advance in Army Aviation. The exam is, in conclusion, most advanced and focused on this field of the military.
Candidtes can apply through their Army recruiter or their Army educational center. Three types of locations are available as test-taking positions: Local Military Entrance Processing stations, Military academies, or Educational centers. When applying, be sure to do it at the location where you plan on taking the test. Make sure to bring your social security number or proof to the location with you, since this is a mandatory requirement for all the test takers.
Syllabus of Selection Instrument for Flight Training Exam
The SIFT, like any other test, has the goal of evaluating the competencies and expertise of the person taking it. The test has the following subsets:
- Perceptual speed and accuracy test
- AAIT - Army Aviation Information test
- Spatial apperception
- Cognitive Abilities
It is recommended to prepare fully before taking the exam by studying on above-mentioned topics.
Format of Selection Instrument for Flight Training Exam
The SIFT is a timed test and can take up to three hours, but most Army professionals have spent up to two hours taking it. This is a computer-based test and can be taken year-round.
The maximum number of test tries is two. This means any Army professional can have taken the test two times in their lifetime in the time span of 6 months. This is why it is very important to get the best score during the first or second try. The highest exam score is 80 and to pass, one needs a score of 40.
