Power Plant Maintenance Selection System exam is a test used by institutions to test prospective employees seeking to work in the utilities as maintainers of power generation systems. Special skills are required in the maintenance of these systems that ensure a constant supply of energy lead. Edison Electric Institute creates this and makes it available to test potential employees in this sector.

This test however not administered by the Edison Electric Institute, instead, its member utilities in the over 50 states ensure candidates for such positions are subjected to test as part of their application and qualification.

Eligibility for the Power Plant Maintenance Selection System Exam

Every potential employee seeking positions in electric utilities specifically in power generation maintenance is eligible to take the test. Each individual utility companies however may have variant policies thus making it advisable for such potential candidates to seek further clarifications with corresponding utilities.

Syllabus for the Power Plant Maintenance Selection System Exam

This test covers basic math, object assemblage, mechanical concepts, and reading as explained.

  • Math: This covers mathematical usage and general knowledge of basic math. Examples would be mathematical conversion ounces to pound, yards to inches, etc.
  • Assembling objects: Covers the ability to rightly visualize objects that are correctly assembled. By use of letters in one-part, specific object parts are labeled and candidates must correctly assemble the part by correctly matching the letters. On the other part, candidates assemble these object parts without labels.
  • Mechanical concept: Measures candidates’ understanding of mechanical concepts by use of photos of different mechanical situations.
  • Reading: This covers reading comprehension where candidates must comprehend the technical information in different power plant manuals.

    The test is about 2 hours long. It has 4 main components namely:-

    Math section

    • Contains 18 questions
    • Candidates have 7 minutes to complete this section

    Assembling objects section

    • Contains 20 multiple questions
    • 15 minutes to complete
    • This section contains two parts, the first tests assembling with labels, the other without labels

    Mechanical section

    • Has 44 multiple choice questions
    • 20 minutes to complete
