Exam in Radiography Study Guide


Radiography exam is conducted by ARRT (American Registry of Radiologic Technologist). This exam gives certification to candidate to practice as a professional radiographic technologist. Medical technician trying to be a radiographer needs to pass this exam to be a certified radiographer. For being the one, applicant must not only fulfill the educational eligibility but also ethical and documented qualifications.

Eligibility for Exam in Radiography


For being a certified radiographer one needs to possess license from ARRT. ARRT holds the exam and provides the licensure to the candidate. For applying for the certification, candidate must hold an academic degree in the same field or in any clinical area. The degree should be accrediting by the body approved by ARRT like CHEA and USDE. For the candidate who will be graduating after 2013 will need additional clinical and didactic eligibility to be fulfilled such as 15 specific radiologic procedures out of any 30 listed by ARRT. Apart from this educational eligibility one should be ethically eligible to be a radiographer. He/she should commit himself about the challenges in the profession. He/she should be able to face the consequences if any in case of emergency and casualty. Rest the documentation should be done aptly by the candidate in order to minimize the chances of application rejection.

Format of Exam in Radiography


Exam of radiography conducted by ARRT is objective interrogation of the candidate regarding his/her knowledge in the field. The topics covered in this exam are unequally focused and hence candidate should study accordingly. Prevention from radiation which includes exposure and inflation from radiation and patients and personal safety, equipment handling and quality assurance, image fabrication and estimation, radiographic methodologies and ethical clauses and issues are some of the topics covered in the test. The test carries 220 questions out of which 20 are unescorted (no marks are given for correct answer). The total score of the candidate is converted on the scale of 100. The required passing marks for certification are 70. Candidate scoring less than 70 is not liable for the certification. The total duration of the exam is 210 minutes.
