COMPASS - A Computer Adaptive Placement Assessment and Support System Study Guide
The COMPASS (Computer-adaptive Placement, Assessment, and Support System) is a group of exams designed by the American College Test Program (ACT). This test is designed to evaluate a particular student's maths, reading, and writing skills. The COMPASS exam is used in universities as means of determining the courses where a student is to be placed. This exam is a computer based adaptive exam where the proceeding questions go in series.
COMPASS Exam Format
The COMPASS is a group of exams that is generally a multiple choice questions. Every section of the exam is conducted over a separate day and the candidate appearing for the COMPASS exam can't take all these in a single day.
The COMPASS test includes following subject sections:
Mathematics Section: Includes the five areas i.e. algebra, pre-algebra, geometry, trigonometry and college-level algebra.
Reading: Tests have questions based on comprehension passages.
Writing Test checks a student's ability to correct and check the grammar as well as his skills with proper sentence formations. It also evaluates the candidate's skills with Spelling, Punctuation, Capitalization, Verb formation/agreement, Usage, Relationship of causes, Organization and Shifts in Construction
The COMPASS also has a test for English as a second language to test the candidate's ability in written and spoken English.
