California Common Core SBAC Exam
Implemented in 2015, California Smarter Balanced Assessment Consortium (SBAC) is an examination used for evaluation as part of California’s state testing program. The test is applied in testing the student mastery of the Common Core State Standards. Math and English Language Arts (ELA) are the tested fields in accordance with the rigorous standards set by the state.

Syllabus for the California Common Core SBAC Exam
SBAC covers both Math and English Language Arts (ELA). It is based on the Common Core and provides an overall performance in Math and ELA level as well as other sub-levels. The tests are handled online and not on paper. The tests comprise of computer-adaptive and performance tasks that assist the students in measuring the likelihood of applying the knowledge gained in problem-solving. The SBAC performance tasks allow the students to practice and exhibit their research techniques as well as writing, critical thinking skills, and analytical thinking.
Format for the California Common Core SBAC Exam
The SBAC exam uses a specific model of computer adaptive testing. The computer also regulated the exam questions depending on the answers provided by the student. The exam questions are asked according to the students’ grades and their grade-specific Common Core Standards. The online tests are made up of two components;
- Computer-adaptive questions.
- Performance tasks.
This combination is used to generate an overall score in ELA and an overall score in Math within a student’s level range. The score ranges are set at a minimum of 2100 as too low and 2900 as a high score.
