The National Association Of State Boards Of Geology( ASBOG) Examination:
ASBOG exam is necessary for individuals who seek to become licensed as a professional geologist. The exam is administered by the National Association of State Boards of Geology and consists of the following two parts:
Fundamentals Of Geology (FG) Exam:
To take this exam, the candidate must meet the educational requirement for licensure, which is 30 semester hours of geological coursework.
Practice Of Geology (PG) Exam:
To take this exam, the candidate must meet all the licensing requirements for Texas Professional Geoscientist licensure, that are 30 semester hours of geological coursework, a degree in a geological study, 5 years of experience in geology, and five letters of reference, with not fewer than three coming from a professional source.
Format Of The National Association Of State Boards Of Geology( ASBOG) Examination:
The ASBOG test is composed of the FG test and PG test. The FG test consists of 130 questions while the PG test consists of 100 questions. Time alloted for both the tests is 4 hours. The questions included in the test are included from the following content areas:
A. General and Field Geology
It constitutes 20% of the FGH exam while 21% of the PG exam.
B. Mineralogy, Petrology, and Geochemistry
It constitutes 11% of the FGH exam while 5% of the PG exam.
C. Sedimentology, Stratigraphy, and Paleontology
It constitutes 12% of the FGH exam while 5% of the PG exam.
D. Geomorphology, Superficial Processes, and Quaternary Geology
It constitutes 13% of the FGH exam while 8% of the PG exam
E. Structure, Tectonics, and Seismology
It constitutes 11% of the FGH exam while 9% of the PG exam.
F. Hydrogeology
It constitutes 11% of the FGH exam while 19% of the PG exam.
G. Engineering Geology
It constitutes 11% of the FGH exam while 17% of the PG exam.
H. Economic Geology and Energy Resources
It constitutes 11% of the FGH exam while 16% of the PG exam.
