TExES American Sign Language ASL Exam has been designed to assess the candidate’s skills and knowledge while teaching American Sign Language. It is assessed whether the entry-level educator in the Sign language field is equipped and possesses the skills to teach in Texas public schools.
Eligibility for TExES American Sign Language ASL Exam (184)
To be eligible to appear for the exam, a candidate must fulfill the following conditions-
- The candidate must hold a bachelor’s degree.
- Must complete an educator preparation program in Texas to be considered for a Texas teaching certificate.
If the program has been completed from a state other than Texas but does not have the certificate then the candidate must complete and obtain a letter of eligibility.
If the program has not been completed then-candidate should enroll in an SBEC approved program.

The examination is conducted to test the skills of the candidate in the following core areas:
- General Language Acquisition
- Second Language Acquisition
- Teaching American Sign Language
- Linguistics of American Sign Language
- Sociology and Cultural Anthropology
- Aspects of American Deaf Culture
Content or the core areas covered in this exam are called domains. Each domain covers one or more standards of field for the educators and within each domain, there are a set of competencies. American Sign language consists of only one domain where standards are assessed from I-VI.

- The allotted time for the candidate to complete the exam is 5 hours.
- MCQ or selected response-based examination with 80 questions based on the American Sign Language exam framework.

Refund Policy
If the candidate has registered for the exam and his eligibility is removed, then he will automatically be withdrawn from the exam. If the withdrawal has occurred 48 hours before the scheduled appointment of the exam then the candidate will receive a refund in accordance with the refund policy.

If the candidate wishes to withdraw the registration before 48 hours, he will receive a refund minus $25. Please note- Texas.gov funds are not refundable.

This is a different process from Texas Educator Certification.

Candidate is required to fulfill eligibilities criteria listed by the board. According to the SBEC board, candidate should be a certificate degree holder. Moreover he should possess AGCA teaching certificate, to be duly verified by the SBEC. The additional requirements are the competencies and efficiencies of the candidate to crack the exam.
Format of TExES Theatre EC-12 Exam
Candidate should know the framework of the exam to perform well. Topics included in TExES Theatre exam are creation and performance of the theatre, designing the ambience of the theatre, history and culture of the theatre, interpreting and analyzing the theatrical terminologies, studying the theatre. These topics cover the wide space of the question paper. Hence candidate should study it accordingly. This exam carries multiple choice questions. There are nearly 90 multiple choice questions in the exam. Out of these 90 questions there are 80 scored questions and rests are unscored questions. Candidate should try to attempt maximum questions as there is no negative marking for incorrect answer. The entire range of the candidates score is converted on the scale of 300, out of which 240 is the minimum marks.
