Minnesota Teacher Licensure Examinations
The Minnesota Board of Teaching in association with the Evaluation system group of Pearson has introduced Minnesota Teacher Licensure Examination- MTLE. These tests have been designed and developed in alignment with the regulations set by Minnesota and that includes the content standards for teachers and the Minnesota Board of teaching rules.
The tests measure the ability of the candidate and their proficiency in the basic skills, pedagogy, and concerning content areas. These tests are entirely based on Minnesota policies for every field.
Eligibility for Minnesota Teacher Licensure Examinations
Candidates who wish to seek an initial license are required to demonstrate their basic skills, competencies and qualify for the Minnesota Teacher Licensure Examinations. Candidates seeking an initial license can demonstrate basic skills competencies through MN NES- Essential Academic Skills examination, the ACT plus Writing, and can even appear for SAT.
Pedagogical and content area-specific knowledge is assessed through the MTLE. Candidates can visit the licensure requirements to get the complete details. These are available on Minnesota Professional Educator Licensing and Standard Board website.
Please Note- Candidates who are already licensed and wish to add another license are required to take only the content-area examination in the new licensure field.
Format of the MTLE Exam
The exams are computer-based exams which can be taken around the year. The candidates are given one hour to complete the reading section which has 48 questions, 1 hour and 45 minutes for the writing section which has 33 multiple-choice questions and two writing assignments), and 1 hour and 15 minutes for 50 math multiple-choice questions.
Syllabus for MTLE Exam
For candidates to qualify as a teacher for the University of Minnesota, they must pass all three essential academic skills exams or must complete the three sets of tests.
Essential Academic Skills
Essential Academic Skills includes 3 subtests
- Reading- Allotted time to complete exam is 1 hour- 48 questions.
- Writing- Allotted time to complete the exam is 1 hour and 45 minutes: 33 MCQs and 2 writing assignments
- Mathematics- Allotted time to complete the exam is 1 hour and 15 minutes: 50 MCQs
Candidates may take one, two, or all of them together for the test.
Pedagogy
This includes two levels for which you need to take the subtests-
- Elementary (K-6)
- Secondary (5-12)
Each subtest cost is USD 47.50.
Content Area Exams
Candidates need to pass all Essential Academic Skills tests to be eligible to teach and ALL exams to be eligible for a Minnesota teaching license. For each license, candidates must complete two content area exams.
Scores for MTLE Exam
MTLE examinations include multiple subtests and candidates are required to qualify each subset to obtain the licensure. Candidates can retake the subsets of the exam until they obtain a passing score which is on a scale score of 240. Score reports are made available 21 days after taking the exam.
Accommodations for MTLE Exam
Candidates who are specially-abled and have documented details, and ones for whom English is not a primary language may be eligible to request the alternative arrangements. Since the process may take some time, hence the candidates must be sure to register early.
How to Apply for the MTLE Exam
Candidates need to complete the registration and make payment through the MTLE official website to apply for the exam. After the registration, candidates can schedule the test appointment date and they are available 24x7. Candidates can log in to the MTLE account and select the schedule to make amendments to the registration.
After making an appointment as well as the registration, Pearson VUE will send across the confirmation over email about the test date, time, and address.

Missouri Educator Gateway Assessments
MEGA- Missouri Educator Gateway Assessment, tests measure the educator candidates' ability in terms of content and knowledge. This program is aligned with Missouri and National Standard & is considered as an integral part of the Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education reform.
Typically, there are three Missouri Educator Gateway Assessments-
- Paraprofessional Exam
- The Missouri Educator Profile: MEP
- Missouri General Education Assessment (MoGEA)
The deadline for the exam registration for all MEGA administrations is just 2 business days before the exam date and not later than that. Candidates must register for the exam in advance and provide proof of payment.
Paraprofessional Exam
Paraprofessional Exam is an internet-based exam that involves around 90 multiple-choice questions. The allotted time limit for the candidates to complete the exam is 2 hours and 15 minutes. 15 minutes for the tutorial and NDA & 2 hours as the testing time.

Appointments for the exam date are available around the year on a first-come-first-served basis. The Paraprofessional exam is a single exam and has to be taken accordingly. Candidates can register online through the MoGEA website and can create an account for the exam. $41 is the required fee for the exam that is payable online.
The Missouri Educator Profile: MEP
This assessment is purely conducted online and is not used for admission to any program. It is typically a survey that can be taken at the candidate's convenience from any computer. This is not offered at the testing center. The results are presented in the development report so that the candidates can understand how their current work habits areas compared to those of effective educators. Based on these, the candidates can develop and enhance the work habits further. Though MEP is not a requirement, some preparation programs may instruct or encourage the candidates to complete the MEP.
It must be completed within 365 days of registration.
Missouri General Education Assessment (MoGEA)
This test replaces the C-Base exam and can be taken in place of an acceptable ACT score which covers BSED and BME teacher candidates. As per the latest information on July 1, 2019 students who wish to enter Missouri State University for the teacher certification program can make use of either the composite score of 20 or ACT or a passing score on 4 subsets of MoGEA. Candidates can take the MoGEA exam in its entirety or as individual sections. Candidates can register online. The applicable fee is USD 59 if all the batteries of the exam are taken together and USD 25 for each sub-test.

- Mathematics – 40 Multiple Choice Questions
- Science and Social Studies – 40 Multiple Choice Questions
- Writing – 1 Writing Assignment
Test Results
MoGEAThe passing scores of the exam are set by the Missouri State Board of Education and the candidates must pass all 4 subtests. Score reports are released on the MoGEA website as scheduled.
Paraprofessional
The passing scores for the Paraprofessional exam are currently 220. Score reports are released within the 3 weeks of the test taken.
The Individual educational institutions may set up their qualifying scores which could be even higher as set by the Missouri State Board of Education. Candidates must contact the respective State Institution to determine the applicable scores required to qualify for the exam.
Disability Accommodations
The testing center offers 3 private accommodation testing rooms that are available through reservation only. Candidates who need disability accommodations are required to contact the disability resource center for Missouri state university. Non-Missouri state university can contact the testing center directly.
Requirements for taking the Missouri Educator Gateway Assessments
- Candidates must register in advance as some exams require payment for the test as well as the sitting fee.
- They must provide proof of registration and/or sitting fee.
- They must present all the ID proof as submitted online.
- They must present a photo ID and additional identification as required by the specific exam during the check-in.
- No personal belongings are allowed in the test room and the lockers with combination locks are provided in the waiting area.
- Cell phones and other electronic devices are prohibited in the testing centers. It also includes CDs, CD-ROMs, USB drives, and other storage media.
- Candidates would be under continuous physical/electronic surveillance.
- Must maintain a quiet examination environment and must refrain from creating any distraction.

Ohio Assessments for Educators OAE Exam

Alabama AECAP Teacher Certification
Teaching in Alabama K-12 schoolsrequires active Alabama educator certification. To earn certification through the traditional route, prospective teachers must earn a bachelor’s degree that includes a state-approved educator preparation program and pass the state’s exams for prospective educators. Alabama does not offer a certification approach which allows an individual to only take a test to obtain certification. ETS discontinued paper-delivered testing, however, Praxis tests will continue to be available in a paper-delivered format as required for ADA accommodations.

- Praxis® Core Academic Skills for Educators (Core) — comprehensive assessments that measure the skills and content knowledge of candidates entering teacher preparation programs

- The Praxis Subject Assessment (content knowledge) must be the test under the Current Test columns on the chart. No previous tests will be accepted.
- The Praxis Subject Assessment (content knowledge) must be appropriate to the content area for which the individual began the alternative approach.

Individuals seeking certification in Alabama must successfully complete the current requirements of the AECAP, as applicable. Individuals seeking to reinstate an Alabama certificate that has lapsed for less than 12 months may choose to successfully complete the current AECAP required Praxis Subject Assessments (content tests) for certificate reinstatement. All individuals seeking to reinstate an Alabama certificate that has lapsed for more than 12 months must successfully complete the current AECAP required Praxis Subject Assessments (content tests) for certificate reinstatement.
Alabama Praxis Core Subject Score requirements for being a teacher**Individuals wishing to take all three Core tests (5712, 5722, and 5732) at the same time can select Core Academic Skills for Educators: Combined Test (5751) when registering. No qualifying score is listed by this test because individuals have to make the required score on each of the subtests. In the event an individual needs to re-take one or two of the Core tests, he/she can select the individual test code(s) when registering.
